Getting to Know Us

Shinsengumi Museum is A museum about one of the Last samurai police forces to exist. The Shinsengumi is created by the shogun in 1863 in order. to protect Kyoto from the barbarians (foreigners).

Our director Harmke kluijtmans wanted to know more about the Shinsengumi. That's why she was determined to discover everything about the unknown police force. she visited Kyoto for her research and she brought so much collectible stuff back to her hometown Breda, that she decided to share her collection with the public. That is how the Shinsengumi museum was born.
